Since 2010, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) has been co-hosting the Regional Hub for Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), a joint programme of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with the Asian Institute of Technology-UNEP Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (AIT-UNEP RRC.AP) in Bangkok with the support from Ministry of the Environment of Japan, Asian Development Bank, Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research, and Swedish Environmental Secretariat in Asia (SENSA). APAN is the first regional network for adaptation under UNEP’s proposed Global Adaptation Network (GAN) framework and it aims to help build climate resilience of vulnerable human systems, ecosystems and economies through the mobilisation of knowledge and technologies to support adaptation capacity building, policy-setting, planning and practices in the entire Asia-Pacific region. APAN will complete its inception phase (January 2010-December 2011) and enter its development phase (January 2012-December 2014) with expected funds from supporting agencies.
The APAN Regional Hub Coordinator is a senior position and is expected to play a leading role in implementing APAN activities and develop mid/long-term plans and strategies for the network’s expanded operation in consultation with partner institutes. A dynamic person with strong communication/coordination skills and willing to take up multiple challenging tasks is suitable for this position. A small team of experts will work directly under his/her supervision.
